How is Sonderanalyse funded?
Sonderanalyse is funded through display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships and content licensing. Full details of our ownership and funding structure are available on our Ownership & Funding page. This mix allows us to offer our journalism free of charge to readers while maintaining full editorial control.
Display advertising appears on our site in standard banner and native formats. Affiliate links are used in some articles, and sponsored content is clearly labelled. All revenue sources are managed transparently so that our editorial decisions remain independent of commercial interests.
What are affiliate links and how do we use them?
Affiliate links are links that earn Sonderanalyse a small commission if you click through and make a purchase. We use them only where the linked product or service is relevant to the article and adds value for readers. Every affiliate link is disclosed, typically with a note near the link or at the top of the article.
If you purchase via an affiliate link, you pay the same price as you would without the link. The commission helps support our newsroom. We never allow affiliate partnerships to influence what we write, which products we recommend, or where links are placed. Editorial conclusions are drawn independently of any financial incentive.
How do we ensure editorial independence?
Sonderanalyse maintains a strict separation between commercial and editorial operations. No advertiser, partner or sponsor has any input into our news coverage, analysis or fact‑checking. Our Editorial Policy sets out the principles that guide our journalism, and every article is reviewed by a human editor before publication.
The editorial team, led by Chefredaktör Matthias Richter and Redaktionschef Julia Schmid, makes all decisions about what we cover and how stories are framed. Fact‑checking is managed by Anna Engels, who oversees source verification and corrections. Commercial relationships are handled separately by the partnerships and advertising desks, and these teams never communicate editorial direction.
What you can expect from us
You can expect clear labelling of all commercial content. Sponsored articles are marked as such at the top, and any article containing affiliate links includes a disclosure statement. Our journalism is produced to the same standards regardless of whether an article generates revenue. We do not accept payment for coverage, and we do not guarantee positive treatment in exchange for advertising or sponsorship.
Our fact‑checking process applies equally to all content. AI‑assisted tools may support research or drafting, but every piece is approved by a human editor, and AI is never used to fabricate quotes, sources or bylines. For more detail, see our AI & Automation Policy.
How do we label sponsored content?
Sponsored content is clearly identified with a label such as “Sponsored”, “Partner Content” or “Advertorial” placed prominently at the top of the page. The name of the sponsoring organisation is also disclosed. Sponsored content may be produced in collaboration with the sponsor, but it remains subject to our editorial standards and is reviewed by a human editor.
Our Sponsored Content Policy explains the rules we follow, including the requirement that sponsored articles cannot mislead readers and must be factually accurate. Sponsored content is never presented as independent journalism, and readers can always distinguish it from regular news articles.
